Consent to Treatment
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine sterile needles at specific points on the body. The most commonly used are on the arms, below the elbow, and on the legs, below the knee. It is best to wear loose fitting clothing but on occasions it may be necessary to remove items of clothing.
In addition to acupuncture, a range of traditional Chinese medicine techniques may sometimes be offered as part of your treatment. Any therapies offered will always be explained beforehand, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions before deciding whether you wish to receive them. These therapies include moxibustion, cupping, gua sha and tui na/massage.
Consent is an ongoing process. You are welcome to ask questions at any stage, and you may withdraw your consent to any aspect of treatment at any time.
Risks and Safety
Acupuncture is generally considered a very safe treatment when performed by a practitioner trained to degree level. Possible side effects of acupuncture include mild bruising, slight bleeding, or temporary soreness at the needle site. Occasionally people may feel light-headed or tired after treatment.
Please inform your practitioner during treatment if you feel unwell, too warm, anxious, hungry, or thirsty. This helps reduce the likelihood of dizziness or other mild reactions. It is also important to disclose any medications you are taking, especially blood-thinning medications, as this may influence your treatment plan.
Cupping and gua sha may result in temporary red or purple marks. These are normal and expected responses that typically fade within a few days. Moxibustion carries a small risk of minor burns. These occurrences are rare.
If you experience any effects after treatment that you are concerned about, please contact your practitioner and/or seek medical attention.
Acupuncture is a holistic therapy, and individual outcomes vary. Treatments do not replace emergency medical care or advice from your GP.
I reserve the right to decline, pause, or terminate a treatment session if a patient behaves aggressively, is under the influence of alcohol/drugs, or if acupuncture becomes clinically unsafe.
Confidentiality and Safeguarding
No personal details will be passed to any third party without your consent. Your personal information will always remain confidential unless there are very exceptional situations. This is usually where my duty to you or society may override the duty of confidentiality. For example, if your own safety is compromised, or criminal or safeguarding issues arise, disclosure may be necessary. I will make every effort to discuss my decision(s) with you and seek the necessary consent before any disclosure, wherever possible.
Privacy (GDPR)
I respect your privacy and handle your personal data in line with UK data protection law (GDPR). Full details are available in the Privacy Notice at www.kibworthacupuncture.com or on request.
Your personal details will be used to provide safe and effective treatment. If you are happy for them to also be used for marketing purposes, consent will be requested. Consent can be withdrawn at any time by contacting me.
Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel or rearrange your appointment, please give as much notice as possible, ideally at least 48 hours in advance. This allows me enough time to offer the appointment to someone else if needed. Late cancellations or missed appointments may incur a fee.
Refunds and Block Packages
All fees paid for completed acupuncture sessions and consultations are non-refundable, as fees reflect the practitioner’s time, expertise, and clinical resources.
Prepaid Packages: If you purchase a block of treatments, the package is valid for 6 months from the date of purchase.
Liability
I accept no liability for loss or damage to personal property brought into the clinic premises, or for technical booking system errors beyond my control.
