A Calm, Supportive Clinic in Kibworth

At times, your body can feel out of balance - ongoing pain that doesn’t fully resolve, disrupted sleep, stress that builds over time, or changes in your health that are difficult to manage alone.

Kibworth Acupuncture offers a quiet, private space where you are listened to carefully and treatment is tailored to you.

Sessions are unhurried and focused on supporting your overall wellbeing, not just a single symptom.

The clinic is based in Kibworth, serving patients from Market Harborough, Great Glen, Fleckney, The Langtons and surrounding South Leicestershire villages.

Acupuncture

Originating in China over 3,000 years ago, acupuncture is a gentle, safe, and drug-free holistic medicine that works with your body’s natural healing abilities. By inserting sterile, hair-thin needles into specific points, it releases muscle tension, boosts circulation, and promotes deep relaxation.

Modern research shows that acupuncture works through multiple, interconnected pathways in the body. When a needle is inserted, it physically interacts with your fascia—the vast connective tissue network that links your muscles, blood vessels, and organs into one indivisible whole. This mechanical stimulation ripples through the body, boosting local circulation, lowering inflammation, and releasing deep physical tension. It also communicates with your nervous system, signaling the brain to release natural painkillers, feel-good chemicals and shift you out of "fight-or-flight" into a deep "rest and repair" mode.

Signs like pain, stress, or indigestion arise when the body's systems become unaligned. Through careful observation, listening to your history, and traditional tongue and pulse diagnosis, we uncover the root pattern causing your issues. By treating this underlying cause, we can resolve multiple, seemingly unconnected symptoms at the same time.

Acupuncture is highly effective for a wide range of health concerns and is suitable for all ages. As a powerful preventative medicine, it can even correct minor imbalances before they become chronic, helping you stay on top of your health and keep feeling your best long-term.

It is definitely not magic, but it can seem like it sometimes :)

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a soothing, heat-based therapy used alongside acupuncture to warm the body and boost healing. It involves burning a small, dried herb called moxa (made from mugwort leaves) safely near specific points on the skin.

It may be used to:

  • Support circulation

  • Ease discomfort

  • Provide gentle warmth where needed

It is comfortable and carefully controlled during treatment.

Gua Sha

This is a traditional technique that gently scrapes the skin in repeated strokes using a smooth-edged tool. This motion massages tight muscles, encourages fresh blood flow, and eases inflammation, making it a fantastic way to relieve chronic neck, back, and shoulder pain.

A quick note on what to expect: This technique can sometimes leave temporary pink or red marks on your skin. Don't worry—these are not bruises! They are a completely normal, healthy sign that stagnant fluid and tension are releasing from the tissue, and they usually fade in just a few days.

Cupping

Glass or silicone cups are placed on the skin to create gentle suction.

It is often used for:

  • Muscular tension and tightness

  • Back, neck and shoulder discomfort

  • Supporting circulation

A quick note on what to expect: The suction naturally coaxes older, stagnant fluids to the surface, which can leave temporary circular marks on your skin. Please don’t worry—these are completely painless and are a healthy sign that your body is detoxifying and healing, usually fading away within a few days.

What to Expect

Here is a quick guide on how to prepare and what to expect from your acupuncture treatments.

Preparing For Your Visit

  • Please fill out your new patient form prior to your visit. This will be emailed to you when you book your appointment.

  • Try to eat a light meal or snack an hour or two before you arrive.

  • Ideally, wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows access to your knees and elbows. There are important points in these areas that are used for a variety of symptoms and conditions. Some clothing may occasionally need to be removed, but your privacy and comfort are always my top priority.

Initial Consultation

We will always start by sitting down for a thorough chat about your health issues, goals, lifestyle, and history. I will also check your blood pressure, look at your tongue, check your pulse, and perform any other diagnostic tests relevant to your situation. This gives me a clear picture of what is going on beneath the surface so we can tailor the treatment exactly to you.

The Treatment

Once you are comfortably settled on the treatment couch, I will locate and mark the acupuncture points that I will be using, before gently inserting the needles. Acupuncture needles are sterile, single-use, and incredibly thin—about the width of a strand of hair. Often you will not feel anything when they are inserted. Occasionally you may feel a slight pinch, but this should be very temporary. If you feel a dull, heavy, or tingly ache this is a great sign; it means your nervous system is waking up and the healing process has started.

I am trained in a style of acupuncture called Five Element Acupuncture, which generally involves very quick, gentle, shallow insertions (in and out within a few seconds) and no more than a handful of points per session. Sometimes, needles are left in place for 20-30 minutes, giving you an opportunity to lie back, close your eyes and rest. Most of my clients find this deeply relaxing and often drift off into a peaceful sleep.

Depending on your condition, I may also include moxibustion, cupping therapy or gua sha to support your healing.

Aftercare

What to Do:
After your session, try to take things easy and give your body plenty of time to rest and process the treatment. Drink lots of water to help flush out anything released during your session, and enjoy a warm, nourishing meal to support your digestion. Most importantly, listen to your body—whether it is asking for a burst of activity or an early night, follow its lead and rest if you need to.

What to Avoid:
For the rest of the day, avoid intense workouts, heavy lifting, or rushing around. Skip the alcohol and heavy caffeine so your nervous system can stay in its lovely, calm state, and steer clear of ice-cold drinks or chilly drafts. Keeping your body warm and cozy will help maintain the healthy circulation we just activated and keep you feeling your best.

More Questions?

It is completely normal to have questions before your first session! Here are some of the most common things people ask:

  • How many treatments will I need?

  • Is it safe?

  • Can I claim the cost back on health insurance?

  • What makes Five Element Acupuncture different from standard acupuncture?

  • Where do the needles go?
